I always enjoy the Delta Initiative’s round up of what is going on in the learning environment market. The latest infographic shows the current market share for the major software producers of learning management systems.
Most notable on this graphic for me:
- The returned growth of the home grown system, reflecting the emergence of institution’s exploring software platforms for massive open online courses (MOOCs)
- The emergence of MoodleRooms, a provider of software as a service hosted versions of Moodle
- The continued growth of Desire2Learn
- The emergence of Infrastructure’s Canvas learning management system also offered as software as a service
Overall it appears that most of the growth is moving to the software as a service model as institution’s realize that running this type of software on campus can be a real challenge.
