The field of educational technology is wide ranging and includes topics on: hardware and software used in education; learning theories in relation to the affordances offered by new technologies; distance education, information technology literacies; disability and accessibility; teacher training with emerging technologies; as well as scholarship, academic collaboration and academic publishing. Furthermore the research base around educational technology spans the disciplines, levels of education, and may include knowledge management and training in the corporate sector.
I have conducted a thorough reading and subsequent analysis of seven journals in the field of educational technology. I have chosen the broad lens of educational technology in general rather than focusing in on particular aspect of educational technology (collaboration, accessibility, etc.) as I sought to investigate the field from a macro perspective.
