I was delighted to be invited to speak at the Open Education Week event held at Vancouver Island University (VIU). The event was hosted by the Office of Graduate Studies but initiated and organized by a team of graduate students. This was especially significant as it was my first invitation to engage at the university since leaving my post in 2018. Just being on the campus again brought back many fond memories. As I mentioned during the talk, my time at VIU really developed my “educator heart” and I have lots of gratitude and appreciation for the many professional development experiences and colleagues I had the pleasure to work with.
I have shared my slides from the talk below. I was asked to give an overview of open education and speak about the potential in the context of graduate education.
